Post 2 - Student Short Films

Time

Narrative

Equilibrium - A boy is sitting at school, willing the clock to move faster.

Disruption - He bumps into a girl in school and she knocks the books out of his hand.

Recognition - He marries a girl and has a kid with her.

Attempts to Repair - He tries not to let life pass him by.

New Equilibrium - An old man is sitting in his living room, willing the clock to move slower.

Lighting

The film uses natural lighting as it is set outside and is set in the day time. The lighting is dull because it is a cloudy day.

Character Expression

The boy is looking at the clock with a bored expression on his face. His body is completely turned towards the clock, showing that he is solely focused on that, counting down the seconds.

Costume, Hair and Makeup

To show that he is now an old man, they used makeup to gray his hair.

Setting

The film is set in a classroom/computer lab in a school. Throughout the film it moves through the boys life, going to a churchyard and college and his house.

Props

A series of clocks and watches are scene throughout the film, reminding us of the passing of time.

Sound

The thematic sound of the ticking is diegetic for some parts, but amplified to enhance its significance.

Editing

There are lots of invisible cuts, used to travel through time and setting.

Cinematography

First shot is a medium shot of a clock on a wall, the name of the film balanced on the seconds hand and ticking around. This cements the themes of the film.
