Tight Jeans
Narrative
Equilibrium – Three guys are sitting on a
wall waiting for their friend.
Disruption – A man walks past wearing
skinny jeans that catches all their attentions. Joseph remarks on how they
don’t wear jeans like that.
Recognition – Tyrone tells them he needs
five more minutes.
Attempts to Repair – Marcus explains to
them why they don’t and they begin to talk about girls and the population.
New Equilibrium – They notice a guy with
a tight shirt and Joseph asks why they don’t wear shirts like that. Marcus
starts to explain but the other two shut him up. They are still waiting.
The lighting is all natural. It is dull
and grey as it’s a cold day in England and they are outside.
Costume, Hair and Makeup
The costumes are casual hoodies and
jeans, baggy.
The two guys walking past are wearing
skinny jeans and tight shirts, very different to the three protagonists to
create a notable contrast that can be talked about.
Props
The props are very minimal as they are
waiting for a friend. At one point, Marcus pulls out a rubber band. This shows
his boredom as he entertaining himself with anything he can find.
Character Expression
Since the majority of the film is set in
one place, the film heavily relies on the character expression to tell the
story. From their closeness, we can tell they are friends. Their hands are
constantly moving, signalling that it is cold.
Setting
The setting is a wall outside an
apartment complex in England. We know this because of the characters’ accents
and weather, as England is typically rainy. The signs in the market are also in
English.
From the beginning establishing shots of
parks and markets we can see that this is a town or city in a rural area.
Sound
All of the sound in the film is diegetic
and can be heard by the characters – apart from the music at the beginning.
There is dialogue and background sounds
that would normally be heard in a city.
Editing
The editing is simple with no fancy cuts
and transitions. There is match on action and cross cutting to go between the
three on the wall and what they are looking at.
Cinematography
There are establishing wide shots and
close ups to show that the setting is a city.
A close up tracking shot is used to
follow the guy with skinny jeans so that the audience knows what the three are
looking at.
Close up on their hands to show that they
are cold and have probably been there for a long period of time.
