6. Which films made you think 'I'd like to watch that' and why?
I wanted to watch Legend because it stars some very talented and well known actors, (also Colin Morgan who may or may not be my favourite actor and I was going to watch the film anyway). Also, it has won and been nominated for many awards. It didn't receive the best reviews, but I was intrigued with the way they had Tom Hardy as both of the male leads.
7. What film did you watch?
Legend (2015)
8. Apply narrative theories of Todorov, Propp and Strauss to this film
Equilibrium - It is 1960s England. The Klay twins are renowned gangsters in London. Ron has been in prison for three years and then was put into a mental hospital for schizophrenia. Frances lives at home with her mother and brother Frank (played by Colin Morgan). She is studying at college and is, according to her brother, fragile.
New Equilibrium - Frances has taken her life. Reggie has gone to prison for murder and Ron is back in hospital. We learn that Ron died in 1995 and Reggie was released eight weeks before he died of cancer in 2000.
Hero - It is hard to choose a hero in this story, as it focuses on gangsters. I suppose the heroes would be Scotland Yard, who put Ron and Reggie away at the end of the film.
Villain - The villains would be all the gangsters and murderers.
Princess - Frances is the princess, not necessarily needing saving, but getting swept off her feet and taken away by Reggie Kray. By the end of the film, she does need saving, but no one does.
False hero - Reggie is supposedly sweet to Frances, marrying her and saying he'll give up crime, but he ends up being the cause of her death.
Donor - Leslie Payne gives information to Scotland Yard after he is shot.
